Guys and flowers, whadda ya think??
by Super_Becka inalright, i'm looking for some opinions from the male portion of our jwd audience.. i'm in a long-distance relationship, like i've said here a million times before, so doing special things for my guy is kinda hard.
not only is it long-distance, it's international, too.
we're 3500 miles apart and i'm a starving student, so i can't just swing by for a visit to do something special for him on the fly.. last semester, i sent him a bunch of flowers in his favourite colour, a special "i miss you" bouquet from a local florist that i found online.

THE GOVERMENT AND SHUNNING.....
by Mary inafter reading the tragedy of puternut, i was thinking that perhaps it's time that the government took another look at what can happen when they allow religions like the jws, to cut off family members without a second thought.
surely someone's rights to have normal religions with their family should come before freedom of religion.
isn't it ironic that the gb fought so hard in court to obtain freedom of religion, yet their own members commit suicide when they try to express this very right.

Darth Yhwh said: A family's religious freedom is just that. If they choose to shun their own and create divisions amongst themselves, than so be it. You cannot leglislate morility or family values. Once you begin to try you overstep the boundaries of a democratic society.
Yes but that's just it: these people generally do not make this choice of their own free will. It's forced upon them by the WTS. If they go against it, they risk being cut off themselves. So this is not a matter of an individual "choosing" to shun their family.I'm going to have to disagree with you yet agian Mary. Your right that the WTBS makes rules that the rank n file must obey or be thrown out. It's still a personal choice. Do I raise my family as JDubs knowing that some day if they turn their back on Jehovah that I may have to shun them? If I feel that JW's are indeed the true religion then that's a chance that many JDub's have to and do take. If their children grow up and disassociate themselves then the parent has to make a choice; continue along the path of the JDub and shun their child or suffer the consequences of disobeying the WTBS and continue to have a relationship with their children. The WT is not physically twisting any one's arm. True, emotionally the WTBS is manipulating the rank n file to do what is in its own best interest, but the ultimate choice is still an individual one. If the government can step in and stop the WTBS from making these rules, then rest assured, that it will only be a matter of time before they can tell you personally who you can and cannot associate with.

My wife has bought flowers for me in the past and although I loved the thought I think that I much rather would have prefered a new pocket knife or flashlight. But hey, thats just me.

SOME GENUINE QUESTIONS FOR PMJ
by diamondblue1974 ini have some genuine questions for you pmj which i hope you will take the time to answer;
i was brought up as a witness and left over a decade ago; i have always struggled with these points and hope you can provide an explanation.
the main answer to the questions in relation to wickedness being permitted is that jehovah is proving satan to be a liar (in other words to prove a point).

Good job DB , although I think that PMJ would have been the only one confused.

Well thought out DB. The only problem is that you are telling PMJ that you have ONE question for him/her when in fact you have several. Don't you think this will be confusing for him/her?

No JWs in sight....what happened to them?
by kid-A ini have been living in my new house since november.
i have been home every weekend, saturday and sunday mornings.
i live in a big city, in a densely housed area.. there has not been a single jw door-knocker this entire time!!!!

Darth Yhwh
I've lived in my current house for over five years now. It's a suburb of an average size city with blocks and blocks of city lot property. It's a JW's dream territory. I have had one single JDub stop by in that time period. This doesnt include the times that my JDub mother stopped by with and elder or had one of her JDub friends stop by to invite me to the memorial.

JW's at your door
by kls inlast saturday my brother in law answered his door to a man that asked " are you worried about the environment and pollution"?
my brother in law said" yes i am " .
as they chatted for a few moments ,the man at the door reached into his briefcase case and pulled out his bible.

Sure, It's a way to catch people off guard. When you see someone at your door in a suit and tie carrying a briefcase you automatically assume its a JDub. However when the first thing they say is enviornmental, political, or sociological in nature it opens up a limited window of time for them to try to get thier foot in the door.
